THE JOURNEY AHEAD

Lower School Education Plans

Lower School Campus Plan 2021-2022

In-person Learning

We will host our full student population on campus without social distancing or synchronous remote learning. In the instance that you or your child is diagnosed (or exposed to) COVID, they will have the opportunity to receive their assignments asynchronously through the Seesaw platform, so that they can complete these activities independently from home.

You can also visit the school website to find your child’s (children’s) Interactive Learning Plan (ILP). Teachers will use these ILP’s to streamline the learning process for our students and families. The ILP’s continue to be a wonderful resource to keep informed about what is happening in the classroom and to access the daily schedule. The ILP will be updated every Sunday and will highlight the week ahead. Please reach out to your child’s teacher with any questions.

General Information

The St. Gabriel’s School website, mySGCS, and the weekly Messenger are the hubs for all communication. Teachers will use their ILPs to communicate with parents each week.

Grading

Grading will continue as normal:

  • Students in PK3 will be evaluated using a social development scale.

  • Students in PK4 through 2nd grade will be evaluated using a social development scale and an academic evaluation scale.

  • Students in 3rd and 4th grade will be evaluated using a social development scale as well as academic evaluation and grading scales.

Technology

  • 1:1 Ratio

  • PK3-2nd grade = iPad and Stylus

  • 3rd and 4th grade = Chromebook

  • Classroom Teachers will utilize the Student Information System (SIS), MySGCS and the Learning Management System (LMS), Seesaw to post their Interactive Learning Plans(ILP).

  • Teachers will utilize the Google Suite of products, Flipgrid, Nearpod, Padlet, Wonder Workshop, etc. to facilitate learning.

Health and Hygiene

  • All students in PK3 through Fourth Grade will follow best practices in hygiene.

    • Hand sanitizer will be available in every classroom, and students and teachers will sanitize and/or wash hands frequently.

    • Staff and students will be encouraged to cover coughs and sneezes with a tissue. Used tissues should be thrown in the trash, hands will be washed immediately with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, or hand sanitizer should be used.

    • Children will clean their own spaces before and after they are used, in ways that are safe and developmentally appropriate. Additional cleaning and disinfecting of surfaces that are touched in common will be carried out by personnel throughout the day.

    • We will not follow a strict social distancing practice, but will be mindful of the need to observe adequate spacing when working closely with peers. We are fortunate to have large classrooms where students have ample space to work.

    • Masks will be optional for our students, but encouraged for those who are not vaccinated; we will continue to rely on our parent partnerships to ensure that any symptomatic students are kept at home.

  • We will not require the COVID vaccine; however, once it is available, we recommend that you consider vaccination for all family members to ensure the health and well being of our community.

Playground

Students will use the playground equipment as a whole grade. In order to maintain the health and safety of our community, we will continue to clean high touch areas and incidental equipment before returning to the classroom.

Morning Prayer, Mass, and Grade Level Performances

As we begin the 2021-2022 school year, only Middle School students, faculty, and staff will attend Mass in person. Following Labor Day, our Lower School students, faculty, and staff will join in person as well. Families will be invited to join us for Mass at the beginning of the second quarter. We will continue to provide virtual access to our Wednesday Morning Prayer, Friday Mass, and grade level performances throughout the school year. When attending Mass in person, faculty, students, and parents will be asked to wear masks.

Field Trips

Right now, we are planning on field trips this year, and the vendors we usually go to are open to having students attend.  Details for grade-level trips will be forthcoming from homeroom teachers and advisors as the dates approach.  We will adhere to the health guidelines required by the sites we are visiting and share those with you ahead of time.  If you do not feel comfortable sending your child on a given field trip for any reason, your child will be given an excused absence that day to remain home.  Please stay in contact with your teacher or advisor and your Division Head.
